That reminds me of Nachshon Waxman. Israel made a rescue but both a rescuer and Nachshon were killed. The raid was very odd because the censored Channel One kept having every commentator repeat the same phrase they found him "immobilized". And it was even gruesomely comical that the commentators choked on the word and some even continued to explain to the audience what was meant: "that means to say, his hands and feet were tied". They could have used the word "tied" the entire time, but they were all told to say "immobilized", and so they did. And in the end, Nachshon was shot, I think. They never said he was actually shot by the kidnappers. I had thought that at the time as well, since when a gunman had flagged down a woman driving her car on another occasion and fled with her from Jerusalem the checkpoint soldiers shot her too. They said they thought she was one of them but in the end as long as they got the gunman she was collateral damage. Nobody seemed really bothered by that. I was like, dudes, she was a hostage. You shot your own hostage. And nobody spoke about it with any remorse or god forbid an inquiry. Since they went to great effort to tell us for days that Nachshon was immobilized I always wondered whether his condition was so bad that the rescuers just killed him instead. Just conjecture, but I see I'm not far wrong. I wondered if immobilized was secured with explosives and they just shot him. Or maybe the rescuer who died attempted to free him and they were not shot but something else. To reveal that would be to show that the kidnappers won, so he had to have been shot instead in the narrative.
